The Sunshine Coast “Smashers” supports over 100 players in our local team-based league competition each year. We run fixtures out of our Clubhouse in Warana and various pubs and clubs around the coastal region.
We are part of the Queensland Eight Ball Federation (QEBF), and we are very well known for our team spirit and welcoming attitude to new players of all skill levels, including beginners! We also host a range of tournaments, including our Annual Drawn Doubles, Men’s and Women’s Singles, 9-ball and inter-town challenges such as the SC vs Gympie Challenge.
If you are interested in playing our great game, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, or pop down on a Monday night and check it all out! We are always happy to see new faces – and don’t worry! Even if you don’t know all the rules or seem a little intimidated, I can assure you we don’t bite, and we are all here to help you out!
We look forward to seeing you!
Please note: As of 2023 all fixtures and competitions will be played using “International Rules”.
There are two main fixtures over the year, our Summer Season League, which runs from February to July and our Main Season League, which runs from July to December. Each team consists of 4 players and reserves.
League games are held on a Monday night from 6 pm, based on a home and away season. The Summer Season includes four rounds of Single frame games and two rounds of Scotch Doubles games (the scotch doubles are a fantastic way to learn and develop your skills. This format was put in place to pair newer players with more experienced players to encourage and create those new to the game – chat with some of our newer players. There are some great stories of people who have only played for a season or two and have already been invited to play for our Representative teams!). Our Main Season involves five rounds of single frame games.
Junior players are welcome to participate in our Monday night teams league. Most venues are family-friendly, and our association is more than happy to try and accommodate our younger players. We currently have a few juniors that are ranking very well with our adult players, and they are only getting better with the experience – Well done, guys!
Through the affiliations with the Queensland Eight Ball Federation (QEBF) and the Australian Eight Ball Federation (AEBF), the Sunshine Coast Cue Sports participates in multiple representative tournaments held throughout the year. This includes the Annual SEQ City vs Country, QLD Cup and Country Cup, where we invite our registered members to trial for spots in our A Grade, B Grade, C grade and Ladies representative teams. These events run over the weekend and attracts hundreds of players. Our affiliations also offer players the opportunity to trial in ranking tournaments for places in the Queensland State teams (Men’s, Ladies, Juniors) who then play in a national event.
If you are interested in becoming a Sponsor, please view our Sponsors Letter for more information.
Coaching clinics are run throughout the year at various locations and target development for all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner wanting to learn the in’s and outs of the game or a seasoned player looking for extra tips or to perfect that break, our coaching clinics will have you sorted in no time.
For more information on the next clinic, please email us at secretarysc8ball@gmail.com
The Smashers work with Percys Pool School for coaching and player development.
Sunshine Coast Cue Sports also runs AEBF Accredited Umpires courses. If you are interested in becoming an accredited umpire (and brush up on some of those rules), please get in contact with us at secretarysc8ball@gmail.com and register your interest.
